Literature & Other Things

     Attention blogging world!

In my literature class we have been studying the Restoration period. Which at first trust me I had no interest in even though I love the subject. But the last week we started in on some poetry, Metaphysical to be exact. I know what you're thinking.. " What in the mess is Metaphysical poetry/writing?" Pretty much it is about the contemplation of life and physical things. So to help us understand (because we were pretty much just as confused as you are right now) we read a story Paradise Lost by John Milton. It's a big ole long thing though so we only read an exerp.
Let me give you some background on Milton. This was during the 17th Century and he was a preacher. The things that he wrote about all fit into Metaphysical because it was what he was contemplating and really questioning himself. From the research I have done on my own, this whole thing was separated into 12 books. The story line is pretty much the fall of mankind and why God does what he does and why it's his way.
The character talks about in the beginning how Adam and Eve took the apple and they sinned. Now if you read the Bible or really in general I figure most people know this story, but for those of you who don't Adam and Eve were God's first creation. They were told not to eat the fruit on the tree but the devil tempted them and they ate it anyway. And there you have mans first sin. So after he explains this he goes into the devil and his right hand man having a conversation. Satan was kicked out of Heaven because he and some rebel angels tried to fight God for all the power, obviously this was a stupid choice because he's the creator. Why would you rattle that cage?
Anyways, they got kicked out and God sent them to Hell. As Satan and his PIC (partner in crime) are talking they say things like- He will never stop trying to take the power from God but yet he admits that God is knowingly more powerful than him. Also he says that he will never stop trying to undo all the good that God is doing. In other words, in every good situation he is going to try and turn it into a bad one. When you finally get to the end the narrator decides that he would rather have a little power in Hell than to go to Heaven. "Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven."
This got me thinking, mostly about the world and his decision. I really don't understand his decision to go to Hell (literally) after so vividly describing the horrors of it. And then I thought.. even though this is a sad thing to come to, most of the people today because of their greediness would rather have some power even if it meant being in a place with no relief or rest or happiness, than to have joys beyond the imagination and continue serving God. I also feel like religion is really just a kicked around "promise" nowadays. Do Christians honestly take their job seriously? Do we live like we would want God to see us living if he came back now.. a couple days.. a few years? People are obviously not perfect and that's exactly why we need God, because he is. A lot of people also question if something bad happens then how can there be a God. But it's because things in life are going to get testy, the waters are going to get rough, and there will be situations that are hard to face. But this is because of the first sin and the sin that continues today.
I know this is a deep topic and I intended on having "Other Things" but I've pretty much wrote a novel. Imagine that. So that's all the food for thought today. Later when Me & Kolton get back from going out on the town i'll post a couple pictures of how the costume turned out! (:

Minnie Mouse Ears

It's way past my bedtime! However, I promised yesterday that I would put up the tutorial up on how I made the Minnie Mouse ears for my costume tomorrow!!
First, I picked up the supplies. Black headbands, foam sticky sheets, some red ribbon and a hot glue gun.
So what you want to do is take something (I used a lid) to trace or impress onto the foam and cut it out. Refer to the picture above. Next I got my headband and hot glued the foam to it. As you can see, I cut a little round area at the bottom, this is so the foam would really fit securely onto the  headband.
I then cut a black piece of paper and put it on the sticky side of the foam so that it would still be black and i wouldn't have a random piece of white wax paper stuff? on the back. And that's it! You're finished!!
I also tied a ribbon since I am being Minnie for my pair of ears. Which I will be hot gluing on tomorrow.
Hope you enjoyed it! I know it's short but I've got school tomorrow, but don't worry I have a list of topics for tomorrow's blog!

Never Enough Time..

Okay okay, so I know it i'm in trouble! I did not blog yesterday HOWEVER I do have a very good excuse for it (don't I always :]) So here's the rundown of my weekend! Saturday my boyfriend decided that we wanted to be tourists in our little town because we have never really just explored down town. We have all kinds of little shops and bakeries and the train comes through so needless to say it's extremely crowded on the weekends. Anyways we looked so adorable walking together through town and even got some compliments! After walking around for a little bit we had lunch at a local BBQ place which was by the way a huge thumbs up! Then we headed over to the farmers market for the Fall Harvest Sale. I had way to high expectations for that thing. I expected a lot of cute little crafts and what not. No, it was mostly old granny crocheted stuff=failure.
Once we were done in town we looked in a local Roses for a red skirt. Which I am so disappointed that I didn't find one! Me & Kolton are dressing up as Minnie and Mickey Mouse!! I'm so extremely excited! Then we headed to his house for his brothers birthday dinner. All in all Saturday was a great day with good family and friends.  We of course ended the day with some TV and cuddling because well who wouldn't want to (:
So Saturday one of my friends ask me to go to the last day of FrightFest with her on Sunday  I beat around the bush because I wasn't sure if I wanted to go, but then I thought you don't want to wait until next year so just go! Sunday after church we headed off and let me just tell you-we froze our butts off! But I haven't had that much fun with one of my girl friends in SO long!! All we did was laugh, especially after getting lost in the ghetto. Anyways my excuse for not blogging after all that was I didn't get back until almost 1 in the morning and I was NOT about to stay up and write a blog. If you know me then you know unless it's the weekend then i'm in bed by 9:30, yes you read right.
We also stopped at Walmart on the way back because who doesn't love that place, let's be honest. I had to get some things for our costumes after searching for absolutely forever to find half the stuff.  Then I just got completely lost in the Christmas section because I freakin LOVE that section with everything being so cheap-post poning me getting home.
On a completely different subject, what the mess is up with the freak storm that is about to happen? Honestly I'm a little scared because I don't like storms at all and i'm just very worried about it and all the people involved. I hope everyone is okay! I have a deeper subject, but that's for tomorrow so until then, Toodleooooo!!

OH! Also in tomorrow's blog I will be including the tutorial on how I made these mouse ears. Super easy!

Shopping and Politics

Happy friday night! Hope everyone is doing well! Bad news. Today I got my paycheck direct diposited to my account. The good thing is hey I have a job which means I have money. The bad thing is I know I have it and it makes me want to spend it! So of course I took a trip to the nearest Walmart with my boyfran. Usually I don't go over 20 dollars but tonight I splurged and went for.. 30! And came out with some pretty good things.
Which brings me to my next subject. My new eyelash curler. Greatest discovery i have made so far. It's the Sally Hanson sexy curls. Now, I haven't tried it yet but it looks very promising. I also found the cutest black shirt and some delicious looking cookie mix. Pumpkin spice! I can't tell you how much I love fall! It is my favorite season and whenever I get married it will for sure be in the fall. Pumpkin, scarves, coffee, and the perfect temperature weather. Yum! I just love it. OH! I remember that i have to update on what ever happened with my Modern Proposal. It went okay.. it didn't really flow correctly because it's actually hard to be so outrageous and trying to solve something. Then at the end you had to have a legit problem solver.
Another hot topic that obviously is in everyone's mouth are the politics. Now, I'll be the first to tell you that honestly I dont really do that kind of thing publicly because people get their feelings hurt and it's not going to change your mind/opinion anyway so there's no point in it. Anyways in economics we always have to talk about those things and I swear some people are so ridiculous about those things. You should just respect the opinion of others and have your own, ergo the reason for a democracy and your freedoms.
Well that's all for tonight!   -Abigail

Education

So now that it's taken me 50 years to FINALLY figure out that i was doing the wrong thing and using the completely wrong email to try and log onto Google  I have now wasted almost a half hour of my life. Thankfully, there's not much to lose there (: But that's not the topic of this post.

I just recently had to read "A Modest Proposal" by Johnathon Swift in my literature class. Now for those of you who do not know what this is, trust me it is most certainly worth your time to look up. However, if you have heard of this then you know the naturally disturbed feeling I got from reading the essay before I got the explanation. Basically in the Age of Reason 1600-1800, essays were a very popular form of writing and satire was the theme. Satire is simply an overly exaggerated way of making fun.          I.E. if your topic was obesity (don't get panties in a wad, this is just an example) you could send all those people to training camps for X amount of time. If they did not meet the requirements that you had set for them by then, you could send them to a concentration camp. Crazy right?

Swift thought that the problem his country had was not worrying about it's own problems and trying to intervene into other countries. Ergo he wrote a very controversial essay about saving people's time and money. His solution? Eating babies, but only up to one year old because after that they had too much muscle and were chewy. SAY WHAT?!?! Yeah, i thought the same thing, until I found out he wasn't at all being literal, he just wanted to grab people's attention by saying something so outrageous and then presenting the real problem to them. When in reality all he did was piss a bunch of rich white people off (completely understandable.)

Which brings me to a dilemma. I am having to write, with a partner, my own Modern Proposal. In some cases might sound easy, but you almost have to be crazy to make a logical proposal such as the one that we had to read. I did not want to go for the obvious topic, national debt-or anything political for that matter- so as of right now I have decided on government entitlements that are abused. Welfare, Food stamps, disability, etc..

Whatever one is chosen, I'll have to get crackin' since it's due tomorrow. I'll update on how it went tomorrow... I may end up posting it. Today i also took a trip to the Federal Reserve, which might I add was the longest bus ride ever and probably the most boring thing I have ever had to sit through. But hey, who's complaining we all got to skip a whole day of school. Alright it's past my bedtime and day two has a big fat DONE stamp across it! Pat on the back Abigail.

Introducing..

Hello fellow bloggers!

I've decided to become part of this blogging world! So you should probably know a little bit about me, my name is Abigail, I'm a senior in high school about to take the large steps into the world of college(hopefully a dorm) and the real world! Crossing my fingers that I'll get out of town but close enough that I can come back if I wanted to. My dream job is a nurse-well that's the practical one-and I plan on getting my RN. My not so practical job choice? A pastry chef! The area I live in is just not suited to have an upscale bakery, however later on I would like to try. I've got the sweetest boyfriend who I have been dating since October 4, 2011. He's the cutest little bear I know!

I have an older brother who moved out last year after graduating to live with my uncle and help him run the family Heating & Air business about an hour-ish away from where we live. My mom's parents are the absolute sweetest people I know, Pop is a preacher & Mem has to be the best model wife ever. The family is a little dysfunctional but HEY! Would it be fun without that?Describing myself would definitely be outgoing, social butterfly, ditzy, and a complete crazed I Love Lucy fan! She is my favorite ever actress and might I say a total genius! How people functioned without the invention of ice cream, I will never ever know. Also I sing 24/7, there's not a shower, a baking session, or any average everyday task that i do not sing along to.

Even though I'm in high school there is still that insane urge I get to color all the time and blow bubbles. I am trying out a new motto for my life. Everyday is a gift. Everyday is new. Be thankful for what you have and always be willing to give more than you receive. I will also be on a new adventure to try and study my Bible more for obvious reasons. It keeps me walking the straight and mostly challenging narrow way.

That's all for tonight! But rest assured I've excepted this challenge to myself to blog everyday for at least a year. So toodles, until tomorrow!
